With fans anxiously awaiting his debut album, Victory Lap, Nipsey Hussle announces a deal with Atlantic Records.
According to Billboard, the Los Angeles rapper’s All Money In label has entered into a multi-album deal with Atlantic Records.
While terms of the deal were not disclosed, the first release under the new partnership will be Nipsey’s Victory Lap album… which is set for 2018.
“It’s not about a fame, ambition or getting a radio record,” Nipsey tells Billboard of the deal. “The decision really came down to the message I’m trying to get across. I wanted to give that message the best chance to be heard and consumed on the highest level. That was my goal from the jump as All Money In took time to build its position in the hip-hop lane.”
“Nipsey is not only an extraordinary MC but a true visionary and innovative entrepreneur,” adds Atlantic CEO Craig Kallman and COO Julie Greenwald in a joint statement. “Over the past seven years, he has built an incredible brand that reflects his independent, non-traditional approach to what it means to be a creative artist in the modern music marketplace. We are thrilled and honored that he has chosen Atlantic as his label home.”
Though Nipsey has been indie over the last several years, this isn’t his first deal with a major label. He was previously signed to Epic Records but left in 2010 to launch All Money In.
While indie, he’s released a slew of projects, including Crenshaw, The Marathon, Mailbox Money, and The Marathon Continues.
So far, there’s no exact release date for Victory Lap. Until then, check out Nipsey’s recent mixtape, No Pressure, available now at DatPiff.
